Winter Is Hard Enough
Without Your Garage Door Being Frozen
Why Does It Freeze?
If you are looking for a solution, we recommend basic prevention.
- DO NOT USE A GARAGE DOOR OPENER!! if you suspect that is frozen to the concrete. This can seriously damage the motor and require the replacement of several parts of the door opener. The Next step should be to Disengage the opener and perform a visual inspection and assess the problem.
- Open and close your garage door at least once or twice a day, this helps keep the door from sticking to the concrete, as well as ice forming between any metal components.
- Shovel or sweep away any snow that’s built up in front of your garage door, do this as soon as there is any precipitation so that Snow doesn’t accumulate and allow ice to form.
- Don’t wait for a nasty surprise to happen in the winter months by having regular maintenance performed on your Garage Door throughout the year. Much like oil changes on your car, regular maintenance is key to the longevity of your garage.
- Be sure to perform regular maintenance during the early fall months so your garage is performing at its peak when winter comes.
- Apply a silicone-based lubricant spray to the weather seal at the bottom of your door to stop it from sticking to the concrete floor. However if you do decide to go this route, be aware lubricant sprays can collect dirt, sand, and leaves or leave a grease line on your garage floor that can get tracked into your home. So be careful if you take this route.
We Have a Solution
The Paladin heating cable is a self regulated system designed and developed by a reputable Canadian Company, Heat Line. Unlike constant wattage heaters, the Paldin maintains a consistent temperature and self regulates preventing over-heating and preventing icey buildup.
Beyond saving you labour, the Paladin system is designed to save you money through the unique, self regulating technology enables each product to vary its power output in response to temperature at every point along its length. As the temperature increases, The Paladin automatically decrease it’s heat output, and vise versa providing maximum energy savings.
The paladin heating cable is CSA approved to be used in wet locations and for direct earth burial a feature not found in Any external heating cable currently available on the market.
How Does It Work?

Create A Channel
Cut a small channel into the concrete floor running under the garage door bottom seal. (pictured below)

Install The Conduit
Install the approved conduit in the channel. This will become embedded into the concrete to form a flat, durable surface.

Install the Paladin
The Paladin Cable comes assembled, and is fusion sealed. The systems are custom manufactured to specified lengths, and the ground fault circuit protection is included. Simply push it into the conduit and plug it into a 110 volt receptical and you’re up and running! It’s that simple.
